Cold

9:35 AM, Wednesday, 20 June, 2007

Melbourne is so cold right now that:

My coconut oil has permanently solidified, and I have to run it under hot water for five minutes to be able to get any out;

My toes are constantly iciclified and threaten to snap, no matter how many pairs of socks I'm wearing;

I keep on cooking warm wintery things, especially those that require use of the oven, but they're just not warming me up;

My nose is dripping and my eyes are watery and my ears I can't feel them;

Any time I pass any kind of heater I attach myself to it like a needy barnacle;

All exposed pieces of flesh immediately start paining me the second I walk outdoors;

I think I saw some penguins migrating past the bathroom window this morning - they waved and laughed at me as I stood there shivering.

I hate the cold. I need it to go away so that I can be happy and warm and comfortable. Bleh.

Oh kk, don't be scared! I'll make you a delicious hot stew with bread and potatoes, and we'll wear slippers and drink red wine and hot chocolate beside the heater. Mwah!

I like the new look, Pinky.

Hot buttered toast and some mulled wine will sort you out in no time, Toots. The Bitter Cold and I are old old friends; you just have to know how to handle him is all. Central heating helps, and by that I mean alcohol.

Dear Carolyn, it's called winter - a fabulous season! - Get over it. Are you wearing enough layers?

Posted by: Sabine | June 22, 2007 11:25 AM

kk - It's my pleasure!

Sam - I believe in central heating (alcohol) like I believe the children are the future. Teach them well, and let them lead the way, I say!

Sabine - I am so wrapped up I look like a marshmallow. A marshmallow wrapped in interminable layers of clothing. With scarves and hats, note the plural. Eek. I hate winter!

Moresby is hot and humid. I don't mind the heat, but I can't stand the humidity. I hate being sweaty and sticky all throughout the day. If you are in a house, office or car that has AC, no problem but I don't have AC. And by the way, I think ants are invading Moresby. They drank A's cooking oil, form a thick coating on my coffee mug, and made my towel their home. They have also in my office, millions of them. They drive me nuts. I think these ants are the ones that need to be extinct, not the poor polar bears. Take care.

Amy - you'll certainly need a winter coat, and bring scarves and gloves and hats coz it's FREEZING right now. I wish I could have stayed in bed this morning!

Paul - I miss the humidity in POM! It's so delicious and sticky and lovely. I'd much rather be sweaty all day than shivering. We also had ant infestations all the time, it was really weird. Once we found that ants had overnight made a nest in our roll of aluminium foil, and they had an uncanny knack of getting into everything - we used to keep most of our food in the fridge coz that was the only place they couldn't get in. Then they started eating the seals. They never got into the cooking oil, though, poor A! When is A leaving? And when are you leaving?

Posted by: Carolyn | June 25, 2007 10:30 AM

A leaves for Australia on July 14. I leave Australia for France on August 25. I'm still not sure when I'm coming to Oz and how long I will stay in Oz.

Paul, if either of you want to catch up in Melbourne let me know. Mwah!
